what have I just experienced? :o
I was lurking around the internet and saw this interesting image of a girl with multicolored hair tips~! Turns out she used chalk / soft pastels to achieve this look. Amazeballs.
Ended up researching about this trend and luckily found Kandee Johnson’s (celebrity makeup artist and beauty and style blogger) hair chalking how-to video posted on Youtube. I was super happy when I found out that this actually works even on dark hair and is an effective way to color your hair temporarily — you can just wash it off :D However, if you have super light/blonde hair; it might stain your hair for a few days before coming off completely.

This is super easy ! You’ll just need:
• Water (for dark hair)
• Gloves — or you can just wash your hands after :))
• Soft Pastels —chalk ( DO NOT use the oil type of pastels)
• A Flat Iron

Step 1:
Section your hair. This will make it easier for you to color/apply the chalk.
***
Step 2:
Dampen your hair (not all at once) if you have darker hair — this will make the chalk stick easier/faster and release more pigment. If you have blonde - light hair, there is no need to dampen your hair unless you want it to stain a bit to make the color last longer.
* It’s easier to work with small sections at a time. Make sure the section is completely colored/covered in chalk.
***
Step 3:Now take a piece of chalk (any color you want) and run it along the strands/section until it’s colored. If you have darker hair, go for the lighter/more neon shades to get better pigment. If you have light hair, any color will look awesome!
Obviously, I went for pink. How predictable of me ,_,Added more colors just cause the process was fun! While chalking my hair, I noticed that it made my hair super dry. Though soft pastels are completely safe, make sure to wash it all off at the end of the day and apply conditioner to replenish the moisture.***Step 5:Comb your hair (not too hard) and wait for it to dry. Some chalk will come off — don’t panic! Just brush it off your shirt (better to use dark colored shirts) and comb.***Step 6:Once it’s dry, iron your hair using your flat iron (duh) to seal in the color. Do not use moisturizer or any hair products cause it’ll make the chalk greasy and sticky. Shake off excess chalk.***Step 7:Done! Style your hair and make your friends jealous! :pWorking with chalk can be a bit messy ~ It might be a good idea to sport a similar colored outfit just in case some chalk gets into your shirt :p But it’ll wash off so no need to worry :DComments are always loved :D<3 Crissey
